Kevin Wang

Co-Executive Director

Hi I'm Kevin Wang and I graduated with a BA in Supply Chain Management from Michigan State University last year. I joined MCASA to continue serving the APIDA community, help bridge connections between universities, and have generally have fun. See you all at spring conference!

Serena Chung

Co-Executive Director

MCASA has given me the opportunity to connect with like minded individuals who have a passion for sharing Chinese culture and to create a community. I joined MCASA's executive committee to share my passion and connect with individuals across the Midwest and beyond.

Johnny Zhang

Finance Coordinator

I was actively involved in Ohio State University's Chinese American Student Association. Post-grad I wanted to be involved in a similar cultural organization that emphasizes the importance of cultural awareness but also does not neglect the fun behind the scenes. I hope to have these meaningful experiences in MCASA!

Chris Lau

Co-Workshop Coordinator

Nice to meet you! I’m Chris, a rising senior at Saint Louis University studying biomedical engineering. Fittingly, I am also a St. Louis native, born and raised here by Malay-Chinese parents. Growing up in those three cultural backgrounds, American, Malaysian, Chinese, has given me a unique perspective on the world and cultivated a love for trying new things and learning about other people. Outside of school, I enjoy video games, music (I play both cello and piano), and learning to cook.

Althena Yu

Co-Workshop Coordinator

I joined MCASA because I wanted to connect with people of similar backgrounds across a greater area and continue spreading a love for my culture. I hope to grow our Chinese-American community and look forward to planning an awesome conference in the spring!

Evon Chiang

Co-Activities Coordinator

I wanted to step out of my comfort wear and connect with more Chinese Americans to broaden and refine my understanding of this community. I am also looking forward to create memorable experiences with people who are similar but different!

Ethan Yang

Co-Activities Coordinator

I graduated from Michigan State University graduate with a degree in Computer Science and a minor in Business. He currently resides in East Lansing, Michigan as a Software Developer for Hilton. In his free time Ethan enjoys building Lego sets and playing video games.

Sophia Zheng

Public Relations Coordinator

Hi, I’m Sophia and I attend the University of Wisconsin. At school, I’m also the PR chair for our small Chinese-American Student Association. When MCASA reached out to our club, I thought it would be a good chance to meet other Chinese-Americans in the Midwest and help others in the Midwest connect as well.

Board of Directors

Michelle Fan

Workshop Advisor

Hey everyone! I’m Michelle and I graduated from the University of Michigan where I received a degree in Business Administration and minored in Intergroup Relations Education. I currently work in Strategy & Operations. I’m also one of the co-founders of MCASA and hope to continue fostering a strong Chinese American community in the Midwest where I grew up.

Jerry Jiang

Finance Advisor

I joined MCASA 4 years ago to help it grow and help the pockets of Chinese Americans across the Midwest find a common community to speak on issues relevant to them. Things have changed quite a bit since then, and I’m excited to see what the next few years have in store!

James Liu

Logistics Advisor

Hey all, I’m James Liu [刘鸿祥] (he/him) and I’m a member of the Board of Directors (BOD) and was one of the original founders of MCASA. I am currently a resident physician in St. Louis, Missouri. I completed my medical training at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and my undergraduate at Michigan State University.

Jordan Peyton

Outreach Advisor

I’m Jordan Peyton [ 游 敏 ] (she/they) and I serve as a Director on the Board of Directors for the Midwest Chinese American Student Association. I was one of the founding members of MCASA, personally invited by James Liu and Michelle Fan to join the founding board. I wanted to remain actively involved because I believe it is important to stay connected to one's native culture. Additionally, I serve on the Board of Advisors for the Midwest Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Students Union (MAASU) and hold a B.S. in Biological Systems Engineering from Kansas State University, an M.A. in Higher Education from the University of Michigan, and am currently a Ph.D. student in the Engineering Education Department at The Ohio State University. I also work as the Graduate Education Program Coordinator for the Office of the Associate Dean for Graduate and Professional Education in the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan and serves on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Team in the Office of Corporate Responsibility at Flagstar Bank.

Feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn if you have any questions about staying connected to your culture and being involved in your community as a young professional and graduate student!
